Boston Bob takes victory at Leopardstown, as Willie Mullins saddles two in a day
Boston Bob was victorious in the Synergy Security Solutions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown in Ireland on Sunday, January 29, 2012. He was the favourite for the event, and lived up to the expectations of his trainer, Willie Mullins.
The winning horse started the race steadily, but kept on building momentum in the middle. He made very good progress towards the end, and emerged victorious by two and a quarter lengths.
The seven-year-old horse was given a starting price of 9 to 4 by the bookmakers, which was the best of all in the race. This was because of his performances in hurdle races. He has entered such events on three occasions, and came out on top in all
of them.
Mullins was extremely happy with the outcome of the race and praised jockey, Ruby Walsh, who partnered Boston Bob yesterday.
According to the veteran trainer, “I thought with his size and scope that he would carry the 10lb penalty. Ruby said he hated the ground but he's done it well despite that. He will probably go for the Neptune Novice Hurdle at Cheltenham but I want
to see how my horses run in the Delight Novice Hurdle in two weeks.”
He further went onto say, “Depending on what happens there the Albert Barlett is an option. I imagine whatever race he goes for Ruby will want to ride him.”
Boston Bob’s victory at Leopardstown was not the only success for Mullins yesterday. He also enjoyed a win in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle. His horse in that race was Hurricane Fly, also coupled with jockey, Ruby Walsh.
Although, Hurricane Fly was untouchable in the hurdle, Mullins revealed that he was not expecting such a powerful performance by his horse, who was making a comeback after missing two races this season.
The eight-year-old horse won the hurdle by a huge margin of six and a half lengths. He dominated the race from start to the wire, and did not look like a horse coming back from a setback.
Hurricane Fly’s victory was not a big surprise for the bookmakers though, as they had given him a starting price of 4 to 5 for the event.
