Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens series made interesting as Bruins win on away ice – NHL Playoffs
The Montreal Canadiens played host to the Boston Bruins at the Center Bell this Monday, as they hosted the third game of the quarterfinal clash, which was won 4-2 by the Bruins. The first two games of the series were won by the Canadiens, and they were expected to win the third game as well with the home advantage. However, this did not happen as the Bruins came up with superb performance to win the game by 1-2 in the series.
The Bruins were quick to start and piled up early pressure by scoring early to get into the lead. Both teams came across several more scoring shots, but it was eventually the Bruins who scored once again to double their advantage. The two teams attacked right from the second period and once again the goal went to the Bruins. The Canadiens also succeeded in opening their account with a goal a few minutes later. The Canadiens dominated much of the final period and drew close to the Bruins with a goal. However, the Bruins sealed the game with a goal a few minutes before the end to win 4-2. Patrice Bergeron, centre of the Bruins, was named the star of the game as he ended his night with two assists.
The Bruins exploded right from the start of the game and were determined to score, as they made shots on goal. Their determination and hard work early on paid off when they successfully scored through David Krejci from a quick fired shot to get into the lead in the fourth minute.
Both teams opened up and there were occasional shots on goal after some superb plays were constructed by both the sides. However, it was the Bruins who scored once again through Nathan Horton from a well placed flick shot in the 15th minute.
The period ended with no further goals as the Bruins lead 2-0 going into the break. The Bruins made nine shots on goal during the period, while the Canadiens made eight shots on goal.
The Bruins continued their dominance as the second period kicked off, and further extended their lead with another goal in the third minute scored by Rich Peverley.
However, the Canadiens knew they had to score as soon as possible in hopes of a comeback. And this is exactly what they did by scoring in the eighth minute through Andrei Kostitsyn from a well placed backhand shot.
There were several more shots with the Bruins making 10 shots on goal during the period, whereas the Canadiens made 13 but no goals were scored, and the period ended with the Bruins leading 3-1.
The Canadiens came up with a better performance in the final period as they dominated almost the entire 20 minutes of play. The Canadiens scored in the fifth minute through Tomas Plekanec to trail by a single goal that gave an interesting spin to the game.
Unfortunately, for the Canadiens, the Bruins scored once again in the final minute through Chris Kelly’s flick shot to win the game 4-2.
