Boston Bruins, Tyler Seguin force Game 7 with 4-3 win past Washington Capitals -NHL Playoffs Update
Same situation but different team for Boston Bruins as rookie, Tyler Seguin, shot the overtime game-winner to stay alive in the series with a 4-3 victory past Washington Capitals, forcing a Game 7 decider in the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley
Cup Eastern Conference Playoff Quarterfinal series on Sunday night, April 22, 2012, at the sold-out Verizon Center in Washington.
The series will now be heading back to Boston for the deciding the fate of both teams, something Bruins will definitely be looking forward to as the defending Stanley Cup championships faced a Game 7 decider three times last year before securing the prize.
Boston did not have to trail throughout the contest, showing their ability to easily dominate the competition, but it was Washington’s captain, Alex Ovechkin, that rose to the occasion and tied the match with less than five minutes remaining.
"It's been a dogfight from start to finish," Bruins coach, Claude Julien, said. "Both teams here are heading to Game 7 with the same kind of confidence. For us, it's time to take advantage of the home ice that we've fought hard all year to get. We've got
to make it count."
Rich Peverley got the first of the night followed by an equaliser from Mike Green. David Krejci took the lead for Boston yet again on the power play with less than four minutes to go in the opener.
Jason Chimera scored the only goal of the second period but Andrew Ference’s one timer from Tyler Seguin put them ahead by one at 11:57 into the third. Alex Ovechkin got a luck shot in round-three with his snap shot right after a face-off in the Boston defensive
end.
3:17 into overtime and Tyler Seguin got the puck past rookie goalie, Braden Holtby, to take the win in post-regulation, forcing the Game 7 decider and avoiding elimination.
"I saw the goalie challenging, so I just tried to make a quick move and got lucky it went in," Seguin said. "This series I've had a lot of chances and opportunities and I haven't been finishing them off. It's just really nice to get that feeling of finding
the back of the net."
It all comes down to Game 7 in Boston at the TD Garden on Wednesday, April 25.
