Boston Bruins' Milan Lucic optimistic despite nose surgery –NHL Injury Update
After having corrective nose surgery, 23-year-old left winger, Milan Lucic, is optimistic about making it even better next National Hockey League (NHL) season with his original draft team, Boston Bruins.
Lucic had his nose repaired due to a breathing problem with his right nostril during the 2011 NHL Playoffs, but continued to play despite facing difficulties and extreme risk of it being bashed in by other players during game-play.
The Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada native described his condition on Wednesday before a charity softball game at LeLacheur Park began, where he was scheduled to make the inaugurating pitch.
"The nose is good", Lucic said. "(I) got that fixed, which is great because I wasn't able to breathe out of my right nostril, so that kind of (stunk). But it's more like a refreshing feeling right now that I'm able to get more oxygen intake throughout my
nose".
Even with breathing problems throughout the 2010-2011 regular season and into the playoffs, Lucic continued to perform his best and give it his all. He contributed 62 points (30 goals, 32 assists) to tie for the highest scoring record on the team in 79 games
played along with an impressive plus-minus rating of 28.
"It actually happened at the end of the 2009-10 season," Lucic said of the injury. "So I played the whole season last year with it. And near the end, it started to become a pain because I started to get sinus infections and stuff like that. So that was tough
to deal with”.
He continued his shot-on performance during their Stanley Cup stretch by landing 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in all 25 games played and a plus-minus rating of 11 along with 63 penalty minutes.
No matter how impressive Milan Lucic has come to be for Boston, his heart still remains with his team and is not eyeing a position anywhere else, anytime soon. Next season, with a clearer nose, Lucic plans on reaching not only career highs but also another
Stanley Cup stretch as well for his second championship at such a young age.
