Boston Bruins' Tim Thomas not budging on decision not to play next season -NHL Update
Boston Bruins allowed their veteran goalie, Tim Thomas, ample time to rethink his decision about taking the next National Hockey League (NHL) regular season off but unfortunately, the 2011 Stanley Cup winning goaltender has not changed his mind.
Bruins general manager, Peter Chiarelli, came out on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at termed the veterans decision to be “definitive”.
“I haven’t seen his infamous Facebook post. I’m aware of it,” said Chiarelli. “I’ve talked to his agent in the last little bit, and nothing has changed. If you’re asking me, ‘Has he clarified that he’s not playing for the year’... he’s stated that through
his agent that he’s not playing for the year.”
There is no obvious reason why Tim Thomas decided to take the next hockey year off but according to him, spending time with family and friends along with rethinking what he wants to do with his career are some of the things he plans on doing with his time
off.
The Boston franchise on the other hand, has begun making changes to play the up and coming regular season without him. Goaltending changes will be seen for sure with Tuukka Rask taking over the main spot and Anton Khudobin backing him up.
"As I said before when we talked about Tim, I'm operating under the premise that our goalies will be Tuukka (Rask) and Anton (Khudobin) because Tim won't be playing for us," Chiarelli said. "So I mean there's a whole -- I'm not going to tell you everything
-- but there's a whole host of things that trickle down from that one event. So, yes -- short answer -- yes, it has had an impact."
Many have termed this a move in favour of Tuukka Rask, since he had wanted more playing time on the ice for the past few seasons and now will be his chance to prove his worth to the Boston team.
This whole scenario can play out in different ways for Tim Thomas, but for some, there is still a lot of time for him to think it over.
