Boston Bruins' Tim Thomas opens up about statements against White House –NHL Update
Boston Bruins’ veteran goalie, Tim Thomas, and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals after leading his team to glorious victory, came under immense heat after his protest of not attending the annual White
House ceremony with the President and the winning team.
Thomas remarked the government as being “out of control”, along with making statements against the total political scene going on in the United States at the moment as being totally undefined with the people.
After making such assertions, Thomas did not come out in the light until recently on Friday, January 27, 2012, as he cleared up some of the issues he was facing at the moment along with backing himself on the protest.
He claimed that all the hype was media driven and it had been shown to be much more than it actually was, since according to him, he was simply protesting, which is his fundamental right to do.
"[The controversy] is all media-driven and it has been from the start. Everything that I said and did was as an individual. It was not as a representative of the Boston Bruins," Thomas said during All-Star Weekend in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. "All it has
to do is with me. But it's separate from hockey. That's my personal life and those are my personal views. Those are my personal beliefs. It has nothing to do with hockey. It has nothing to do with this All-Star Game. It has nothing to do with the Boston Bruins."
Thomas was chosen by Zdeno Chara to be a part of his All-Star team, who is also the Boston Bruin’s captain as well and fellow teammate.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Senator Scott Brown also criticised his decision of not attending the ceremony alongside President Barack Obama, terming it disrespectful, but Thomas asserts that it was his choice as an individual and not politically
backed like some people think.
Several NHL players opposed his views while many also supported them, one of them being Montreal Canadiens’ goalie, Carey Price.
As Thomas tries to clear the misconceptions laid against him, there is still confusion in the air which will certainly take some time to set aside.
