Boston Bruins' win from Anton Khudobin's spectacular debut against Ottawa Senators 3-1 -NHL Update
Boston Bruins brought out another goalie they had been thinking of trying and it turned out successful as Anton Khudobin of Kazakhstan amazingly blocked 44 shots in his debut matchup, topping Ottawa Senators 3-1, Thursday night, April 5, 2012, at the jam-packed
Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario.
It was Khudobin’s first matchup of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and seventh of his career in minimum performance with the Minnesota Wild. Now, as the 25-year-old tries to make his way into the major league, his performance with
Boston has certainly allowed him to break the barrier.
"I got a couple shots in the first minutes of the game; the guys helped me a lot and [Marty] Turco talked to me and said, 'Let's go have some fun,'" Khudobin said. "I don't know why [the butterflies] didn't come earlier; I thought I would have them an hour,
thirty minutes before, but I had them right before the start. But it goes away pretty fast."
Benoit Pouliot kicked off the scoring with his 16th of the year midway through the opening period. Greg Zanon followed with his third in the next period coming fast on a breakaway while Jason Spezza finally put Senators on the scoreboard at 13:56.
"He played good," Ottawa captain, Daniel Alfredsson, said about Khudobin. "We did a good job generating chances, there's no question. They capitalized on our mistakes and did a good job in the neutral zone."
Boston’s Milan Lucic finalised the contest with his 26th with less than five minutes remaining on the clock in regulation to extend the lead way out of Senators hands.
Bruins will be resting Tim Thomas for the remainder of the regular season as he is their only goalie available to go into the playoffs with Tuukka Rask out with an injury. They will be playing their season finale at home in Boston against Buffalo Sabres
on Saturday.
Ottawa Senators also have one more remaining on the list of matchups with the next being against New Jersey Devils on the road. With a playoff spot secure and heading in as number seven, Ottawa will be using this time to rest up some of its top players before
the real competition kicks off.
