Boston Bruins Adam McQuaid recovering from Blood Clot Surgery -NHL Update
Boston Bruins’ defenseman, Adam McQuaid, is taking full benefit of the lockout as he is currently recovering from a surgery for a thoracic outlet syndrome following a blood clot that developed under his collarbone.
If there had been a National Hockey League (NHL) regular season in play, McQuaid would not have been able to participate until January or February after the surgery took place earlier in October, according to CSNNE.com.
This is not the first time such an injury has come about for the defender, but hopefully, the two major surgeries to remove the clot along with another to prevent it from reoccurring again, McQuaid will not be facing such problems again.
Due to the medical coverage for injured players, McQuaid is continuing to receive compensation under certain clauses and so far, have been a major help for the 26-year-old.
“It happened in the first week working out at Harvard. I’m on the road to recovery, but I still have a ways to go yet,” McQuaid told CSNNE.com. “The reason behind the surgery is to prevent it from happening again. It should be fine once I’m fully recovered.”
“It could have been a lot worse. Now it’s been taken care of and I can get back to regular activity. I’m just getting my feet under me right now.”
McQuaid is a former 55th overall draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets back in round-two of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He has played three major league seasons with the Boston Bruins up until now and has a total of 158 games under his belt with
six goals and 20 assists along with 216 minutes in penalty time.
2011 was a major season for the player as well as he was a major contributor in their run for the Stanley Cup championship. McQuaid potted four assists in the 23 appearances he made with the Bruins.
Currently, Adam McQuaid is signed on to a three-year, $4.7 million contract which gives him an annual salary cap hit of $1.566 million along with making him an unrestricted free agent by the end of 2014-2015.
Updates should be expected in the days to come.
