Boston Bruins Claude Julien set to Coach Youth Hockey Team for Charity -NHL Update
Claude Julien will not be sitting idle this lockout as the veteran Boston Bruins head coach is set to continue utilising his expertise, but this time not for a professional National Hockey League (NHL) franchise, but a youth hockey team instead.
Everyone is looking to stay busy as the situation between both the NHL and Players’ Association continues to go deeper into a deadlock in regards to a new collective bargaining agreement, and with it being for charity, Claude Julien could not have gotten
it any better.
Julien was raffled off to coach for the Winthrop, Mass., Squirt B team for one game, which will obviously benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation in an unprecedented manner, along with helping out Massachusetts Hockey.
"I was approached by our Foundation and they asked me if I would be willing to coach a youth hockey team that would win in a raffle and that would help raise money for minor hockey in the area and also for our Foundation that always gives money to great
cause," Julien said, according to NHL.com. "It was a no-brainer for me."
The matchup is scheduled to start on Sunday, at the Haverhill Valley Forum in Haverhill, Mass. Julien stated that he would be there early in order to help his new team prepare and warm up for the matchup. He added that it will be a professional sort of environment,
allowing the youngsters to feel what the NHL players have to go through in order to perfect their skills and improve their abilities.
"Since we can't be doing what we usually are doing right now, this is an opportunity to give back and participate in the community and keep the situation as positive as you can related to hockey," Julien added. "It was an easy answer for me to give them."
It is definitely not going to be an easy feat for the youngsters to keep up with someone like Claude Julien, but everyone certainly knows that this is an opportunity of a lifetime for those seeking to make it big in the professional league someday.
"It's going to be a fun day," continued coach Claude Julien.
