Boston Bruins David Krejci signs with HC Pardubice in Czech Republic -NHL Update
After waiting for sometime whether the National Hockey League (NHL) and NHL Players’ Association would be able to work out a new labour deal in order to save the 2012-2013 regular season, Boston Bruins David Krejci has finally decided that enough is enough
and playing is must.
The native of Czech Republic signed on with a local club overseas, the HC Pardubice of the Extra Liga. It is cited by sources close to the player and Boston Herald, one major factor which was holding the player back was securing a large insurance policy
in order to play abroad. Now, after some formalities were cleared, the centre position player may be back on the primetime ice as soon as this upcoming weekend.
Looking at how the league and NHLPA failed to make any significant progress this week, and especially the statements NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly made, Krejci was bound to follow in the steps of a number of big name players that have already made the
move.
“Not prepared to speculate on next steps at this point,” Daly said in an email yesterday to the Associated Press. “Obviously, we’ve been saying for over a month now that we would welcome a new proposal from the Players Association. That continues to be our
position.”
“(It’s) not a constructive position to say, ‘Here’s our first offer. We think it’s really good. Call us back when you are ready to accept it.’ That’s what the union has effectively done here.”
According to the Players’ Association’s special counsel, Steve Fehr, the league had wanted to lockout the players from the start and they have now succeeded in doing so despite the players having made a number of proposals to the franchise owners, as he
termed them to be “favorable” for the side.
Krejci is a 63rd overall draft pick of the Boston Bruins of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Last season was his second straight hockey year in which he potted 62 points, consisting of 23 goals, 39 assists in 79 games played. He was also a major contributor
in the Boston Bruins run for the Stanley Cup championship back in 2011.
