Boston Bruins devour Vancouver Canucks, 8-1, in Game 3 of 2011 NHL Stanley Cup Finals
It has been over 21 years since Boston Bruins’ fans have had a chance to cheer their team in the National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals. They made up for that lost time on Monday as Bruins annihilated Vancouver Canucks by 8-1 and proved their presence
in the series at the TD Centre in Boston, Massachusetts.
In the first two games, Vancouver had manhandled Bruins like it was another team in its best regular season form, but Boston reminded Canucks that these were the playoff finals and underestimating Bruins would be a major mistake.
The first period remained locked down as both teams failed to score any goals, making the game even tenser.
Andrew Ference, Mark Recchi, Brad Marchand and David Krejci all scored in the next 20 minutes in a wild trance which sent the Boston sold-out crowd screaming and shouting with joy.
Ference scored in the opening 11 seconds while Recchi took advantage of Vancouver’s first penalty of the period.
Marchand extended the lead, shorthanded, when Boston went down 5-on-4 midway through the second and Krejci fired off his 11th of the playoffs to seal the period with less than four minutes remaining.
Since Vancouver was desperate as it entered the third period, what looked like the final period of the game had heated moments between Canucks and Bruins throughout the period.
Both teams received over 95 minutes in penalty time for misconducts but Bruins still managed to score four more goals.
Daniel Paille put the deficit to 5-0 for Canucks who had nearly lost hope but Jannik Hansen scored his third of the postseason to give Vancouver a chance at a miraculous comeback.
Luckily for Boston, that was not the case and Recchi scored another insuring goal followed by Chris Kelly and Michael Ryder each potting a goal to their name to take the score way out of reach.
It was truly an embarrassing match for the winners of the Presidents’ Trophy during the regular season, Vancouver Canucks.
Vancouver hopes to bounce back and put Boston on the verge of elimination in Game 4, but looking at how Bruins made a recovery in this game, it certainly will not be as easy as thought by Canucks earlier.
