Boston Bruins Goalie Tuukka Rask injured in Europe -NHL Lockout Update
Boston Bruins main goalie for the next National Hockey League (NHL) regular season was injured during a matchup in Europe, but fortunately, it has not been deemed to be serious and is expected to heal quickly.
Tuukka Rask suffered a slight groin pull on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, and left the game after the opening period during a matchup in the Czech League for Plzen. He later on talked to a local TV channel about the incident and let it be known that it was
“not serious”.
"I slightly pulled my groin, it is not serious," Rask told Czech TV, according to Jedlicka's Twitter account. "I had groin problems last year so I took [a] little rest just for precaution."
It is not the first time Rask has faced a groin related problem as the Boston Bruins goalie was also sidelined by the NHL franchise earlier this year due to groin and abdominal injuries, leaving the stage to Tim Thomas to tackle all alone. He was not able
to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs either, forcing the veteran Tim Thomas to burnout and have the Bruins eliminated in round-one of the postseason.
Rask was drafted as the 21st overall back in round-one of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, but never played a game with them in the major league until being picked up by the Boston Bruins in 2007-2008.
He had a major role with the Bruins during 2009-2010 in which he played 45 games, had 22 wins along with a .931 save percentage and spectacular 1.97 goals-against average. Unfortunately, he has not been able to get back at that position ever since and took
a smaller role with the club after that.
Tuukka Rask is currently under a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Boston Bruins and is playing in Europe due to the lockout situation currently being faced in the NHL. The one-year deal is seen more of as a testing contract for the Boston Bruins,
who want to see how he can perform now given all authority of a starting goalie with Tim Thomas out for the next hockey season.
