Boston Bruins Marc Savard still facing Post-Concussion Symptoms -NHL Update
Things are looking tough for veteran Boston Bruins forward, Marc Savard, who is reportedly still suffering from post-concussion syndrome and has not cited a return to hockey any time soon due to the lack of progress.
Savard let fans know through twitter that he has been trying to get back in the workout loop but continues to fail since post-concussion symptoms keep reoccurring and forcing him to call it a day.
"I do in fact hope there is still a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel to play but that rest on the doctor shoulders so far #nochance," he tweeted from his @MSavvy91 account.
The 35-year-old, who was drafted by the New York Rangers as the 91st overall back in round-four of the 1995 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft, failed to participate throughout the 2011-2012 regular season and played in just 25 games during
the hockey year before that.
Doctors have termed his condition to be serious and making an early comeback to hockey without being fully cleared could be detrimental to his health, which is why the veteran is not set on taking any chances.
“For the fans that keep asking me, there is no comeback in the foreseeable future,” Savard posted. “I miss the game. It has given me everything I have today.”
Savard has played in a total of 807 games up until now and has 706 points (207 goals, 499 assists) to his name with 737 minutes in penalty time. He is an integral part of the Boston Bruins squad, which could certainly use his intimidating presence, but seeing
how his health is not looking as good as it should be right now, hockey could be something he just might have to quiet in order to stay healthy.
It back was in 2010 that Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke knocked him out during a regulation matchup and had to sit out from March to May. He tried making a comeback many times after that but just could not find it possible to continue and has been
suffering from fatigue, headaches and memory loss as well.
Everyone from players to fans, are hopeful for a full recovery for Marc Savard, but nothing can be said just yet on when he might return.
