Boston Bruins’ Mark Recchi, 43-year-old, might be playing last game against Vancouver Canucks –NHL Update
While both Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins gear up to play in the final game of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals’ series, Bruins’ 43-year-old right winger, Mark Recchi, is planning to call it his last game.
The 67th overall pick of Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round, Mark Recchi might be calling Game 7 his last of the career which he wants to end on a high note by winning the Stanley Cup.
"It crosses my mind, but I have a job out there to do for the guys and I can't put those thoughts in my head", Recchi said. "I'm going to lay it on the line one more time and see where it takes me after that. No matter what, it's been a great 22 years".
The 43-year-old from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, will be returning to a fairly well know city, Vancouver, in the same province as his hometown, and plans on ending his 22-year career by winning it all with his team, Boston Bruins.
"This is what we dream of, right here: Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final", said Recchi, who along with Shawn Thornton is the only current Bruins player to have won a cup before. "Let's go see what we can do".
If Bruins is able to win the cup on Wednesday against Canucks, it will mark his third career championship.
Recchi has won the Stanley Cup twice before, with Pittsburgh Penguins in 1991 and Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.
So far, Recchi has played all 24 playoff games this season and boasts a 13 point record with eight assists and five goals along with a plus rating of four.
Throughout his career, Recchi has participated in 1,652 regular season games with Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Thrashers, Tampa Bay Lightning and finally Boston Bruins.
Recchi is No.12 currently on the NHL’s all time scoring list and is sure to be inducted into the Hall of Fame once he chooses to retire from playing professional ice hockey.
