Boston Bruins Milan Lucic privately enjoys Stanley Cup visit to Vancouver –NHL offseason Update
He might have had to play against his hometown team to win the Stanley Cup, but that did not certainly stop top-notch scoring Boston Bruins left winger, Milan Lucic, from bringing home the cup to enjoy for a day, but in a private function of course.
After Boston Bruins eliminated Vancouver Canucks in game-seven of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals, for their first cup victory in over 30-years, at Canucks home stadium, the citizens of Vancouver were very displeased at the series
of events.
A number of riots took place over night that turned one of the most liveable cities in the world to a dump in a matter of hours shocking the whole world at what can happen over a game.
This was the main reason why the Stanley Cup would not be put up in front of a public audience when it would be Milan Lucic’s turn to host the championship with his family and friends.
"There's a lot of frustration and maybe anger from Canuck fans out there to see the Stanley Cup in Vancouver being paraded around town -- but it’s the Bruins that's doing it. I can understand where the frustration would be", Lucic told a local news television
channel during an interview.
The 23-year-old forward hosted a private function for family and friends after visiting some places around town with the cup, which in the end was the real organised event.
Boston Bruins' team president, Cam Neely, had the honour of hosting the cup a day earlier at his hometown of Maple Ridge, and felt that Lucic’s decision not to make it as public was right.
"Some people are still not over the loss, which to a degree is understandable, but I certainly hope it doesn't ruin Milan's day. He's proud to be from Vancouver, and he wants to share the Cup with his family and friends in Vancouver", Neely said.
Lucic not only performed spectacularly during the regular season as he potted 62 points (30 goals, 32 assists) in 79 games played, but also contributed 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in 25 postseason matchups as well.
