Boston Bruins Nathan Horton, Adam McQuaid cleared for contact -NHL offseason Update
Boston Bruins enforcer, Nathan Horton, has been termed to be clear for contact by the team’s medical staff on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, along with being tipped off as expected to be fully healthy by the start of training camp later on in the year.
Making a full recovery is certainly good news for Nathan Horton and the Boston Bruins that felt the absence of their offensive forward ever since he had been knocked out and concussed in January.
In other developments, defenseman Adam McQuaid was also cleared for contact after suffering a concussion in late March.
Top Boston Bruins rookie and second draft pick of the 2010 entry draft, Tyler Seguin, was also out due to repair a tendon in his right hand. The club announced that he would also be ready to go by the time they are actually needed.
"Horton has been cleared for contact and our medical staff says he'll be ready to go when we start playing," Bruins general manager, Peter Chiarelli, said during the news conference in which he also announced the extension of head coach, Claude Julien. "McQuaid
has already been fully cleared medically. Seguin is coming along according to schedule if not even ahead of that."
With a second concussion in just six months, Boston Bruins were not willing to take any risks with a player like Nathan Horton. As soon as he went out, the team came on air to announce that the player could take as much needed time to make a full recovery.
It might have cost them but Bruins are glad to have him back all in one piece.
Nathan Horton managed to play just 46 games last season and still put up 32 points (17 goals, 15 assists) impressively. In 548 games played throughout his career with Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins, the former third overall draft pick of 2003, has 380
points (185 goals, 195 assists).
Adam McQuaid, a 25-year-old defenseman, failed to participate in the final 10 games last season and had 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) to his name with an impressive plus-minus rating of 16.
