Boston Bruins’ Nathan Horton injured in Game 3 against Vancouver Canucks –NHL Updates
Boston Bruins’ 26-year-old right winger, Nathan Horton, was taken out of Game 3 of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals against Vancouver Canucks after taking a head-on hit from Canucks’ defenseman, Aaron Rome, on Monday.
A little over five minutes in the opening period of the game, Nathan Horton was coming across midway through the ice on a breakaway with the puck after he took control of it when Zdeno Chara blocked Alexandre Burrows’ shot. He looked left to pass the puck
to another teammate and Rome emerged out of nowhere and tackled him hard, face first, throwing him on the ice.
The game was immediately stopped as the officials realised something was not right and a five-minute major penalty was awarded against Rome along with another 10-minute misconduct.
Horton remained paralysed on the ice for several breathtaking minutes as medical staff finally arrived and placed him on a stretcher. The fans were entered into an emotional state and chanted his name while he was being taken out.
"It's a tough thing to swallow right now", Boston Coach Claude Julien said. "Our spirits are OK. I heard guys saying, 'Let's do it for Horty.' So we're good to go".
It certainly was a motivating factor for Bruins, who scored eight goals in the next two periods and won against Canucks in an amazing and extraordinary manner.
If Boston continues to play like the way it did in Game 3, Vancouver will have an extremely tough time recovering because Bruins played one of its best games so far on Monday.
An 8-1 victory against Canucks carves this game in history as the second highest scoring game in Stanley Cup Finals history.
Many players from around the league shared their grief with Horton, via Twitter as well, expressing their feeling and prayers for the young superstar player.
Currently, it is tough to say what his condition might be since there has been no final word on his status, but if this proves to be his final game of the series, he undoubtedly went down in a significant way.
