Boston Bruins President Cam Neely still hopeful despite No Hockey till New Year -NHL Lockout Special
Having lost 526 regular season games and still having hope is something maybe none other than Boston Bruins President, Cam Neely, can do at this point as he still sees hockey being played despite the National Hockey League (NHL) having cut all exhibition
matchups till the New Year.
If the league and Players’ Association were to work something out in the next couple of days, half a season still would be playable and most likely, matchups would be between teams in the same conference to wind up the stats and prepare for the playoffs.
“I’ve been (the glass) half-full this whole way, so I’m staying half-full. But it’s frustrating,” Neely said while taking part in the organization’s annual charity toy-shopping spree at Target in Woburn, according to the Boston Herald. “A lot of people thought
we’d be playing by now, but I’m still optimistic that something will get done. At least, obviously, that’s my hope.”
There are still a number of issues that the two stakeholders are trying to work out and have not made much progress on solving them. Federal mediators failed to work something out the first time they took part in the process, followed by a meeting between
team owners and players for the first time. December was a month of high expectations and in the most part, it failed to really live up to all the anticipation.
“I know that they’re going to be upset, and rightfully so, but I’m hopeful because of what’s gone on the past few years,” Neely said.
Neely is also proud of the fact that he managed a team that took home the Stanley Cup back in 2011 and while there are still many hurdles to cross and the team has definitely changed a lot since then, he is ready to face the challenges ahead with a new set
of players at hand.
The Bruins President is also certain of the fact that fans will forgive them once hockey is back on the schedule and that the diehards will get back to watching what they love best. Boston is just one of those teams that are hard to hate no matter what happens,
but a lockout has definitely ruined it for a lot of people, without a doubt.
