Boston Bruins Star Scorer Tyler Seguin headed to Switzerland -NHL Update
Boston Bruins leading scorer, Tyler Seguin, made a surprising move to shift quickly to the foreign leagues in search of continuation of playing hockey in cite of the upcoming 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season being pretty much locked
out.
While many players have made the expected move, Seguin’s was a little more surprising as usually the younger players think twice about making the transition or usually play with minor league teams in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Seeing how many veteran players made the transition to Switzerland, Seguin thought it would be better for him to be a part of the Swiss action instead of going to Russia and maybe face a much tougher challenge and limited playing opportunity.
“He was really intrigued with the Swiss league and the fact that players like Joe Thornton, Rick Nash (both with Davos) and Jason Spezza (Rapperssil-Jona) will be playing there. And there are a few Canadian boys on his team, too,” said Ian Pulver, Seguin’s
agent, according to the Boston Herald.
Seguin was drafted as the second overall during the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by Boston Bruins and really put on a show these past couple of seasons as he put up 67 points (29 goals, 38 assists) in 81 games played after having just 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists)
the serious previous to that.
He really shined in the Boston Bruins run for the Stanley Cup championship in 2011 by potting seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in 13 games to help the Eastern Conference team get the most coveted prize in the hockey world after nearly 40 years of trying.
“It’s too bad the owners chose to lock out the players,” added Pulver. “Now hockey fans have to go to Biel if they want to watch Tyler Seguin play instead of Boston.”
More Bruins are expected to follow Seguin in their quest to override the lockout and continue playing somewhere around the globe. Tyler Seguin has reportedly signed with the EHC Biel of the Swiss National League, which is seen by many as a smart move for
the young player to continue shining in the spotlight.
