Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning teams ahead of the Conference Finals - Goalkeepers
The next players that would be discussed in this article are the goalkeepers of the two teams. Both teams’ starting goalkeepers are talented and have the capability of coming up with game winning performances.
Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins’ goalkeeper, has been on fire during the course of the playoffs. Thomas has consistently been coming up with decent performances and was brilliant against Philadelphia Flyers in the semifinal series. He made 142 saves out of 149
shots fired towards him during the course of four games.
He was also on the end of making a crucial save that ensured that the scores remained level in Game 2 after which Bruins scored in overtime to win.
He was a one man army in the game and was constantly keeping Bruins in the game during which they were outplayed by the strong Flyers.
He didn’t give up till the very last second of regulation time. The game went into overtime during which Bruins scored through David Krejci to win the game.
Coming to the current play-offs, Thomas has maintained a 0.937 saves percentage along with 2.03 goals against average.
As mentioned, he was brilliant against Flyers since he allowed only four goals in the first three games of the semifinal clash and another encouraging fact ahead of the game is that Thomas has won eight games out of the last nine times he has started.
He will be looking to put up an even better and aggressive performance as his teammates expect Thomas to continue his dominance.
One goalkeeper whose name might knock out Thomas’s name from the top spot as the best goalkeeper might be Tampa Bay Lightning’s Dwayne Roloson.
Roloson has done superbly during the season and leads the playoffs with 0.941 saves percentage alongside 2.01 goals against average.
Along with this fact he was absolutely brilliant against Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. It should be kept in mind that he played seven games in 12 days. This is another phenomenal record for the goalkeeper as he keeps on coming up with impressive
performances.
Although he could have been rested for the fourth game against Capitals, Lightning’s coach, Guy Boucher, was confident that it would not affect him so he started with him.
If Roloson continues to do what he has done so far, then one can expect Lightning to move to the Conference Finals with relative ease.
If its defence displays similar performances, it can surely win as its offence has been scoring consistently.
