Boston Bruins await challenge against Pittsburgh Penguins in Eastern Conference Finals – NHL news
Finishing off a series ahead of schedule and getting some extra time to rest and prepare for the next series is a blessing in the tight scheduled National Hockey League (NHL) and the Boston Bruins are definitely looking to take advantage of the situation.
Amazingly, both the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins, who are now set to go head-to-head in the 2013 NHL Playoff Eastern Conference Finals, took down their respective competitors in the semifinals with a 4-1 lead. This is remarkable in terms of seeing
how the other clubs were not just any club but the Ottawa Senators against Pittsburgh and the renowned New York Rangers against Boston Bruins.
Boston was able to get two days off the ice following their huge victory against the Rangers, but after that, it is now time to get back on and work harder than ever before.
“[Monday] is the last day [off]. They need to get back on the ice here,” Julien said during a press conference Monday morning. “I thought two days was a good thing because we'll have at least a couple of days -- Tuesday, Wednesday -- to practice. This time
of year there's not a ton of things you can do with your team more than get them some rest and still have a couple of days to accomplish a lot.”
The Bruins are no strangers to winning the Stanley Cup. They made an impressive run for it back in 2011 as they dominated the Eastern Conference and went on to downing the hot Vancouver Canucks in Game 7, but some experts are regarding the presence of Tim
Thomas as the reason for that. At the moment, Boston has young goalie Tuukka Rask, looking after their net and so far he certainly has not disappointed and the Bruins are hoping for it to stay that way.
“We know they're highly skilled up front,” Julien added. “And even on the back end, you've got guys that can carry the puck … [Kris] Letang, [Paul] Martin, those guys. They've got a lot of everything.”
Boston seems to be prepared to go ahead against Pittsburgh, but only time will tell as they meet up later on this week, who the dominating factor will be.
