Boston Bruins concussion riddled centre Marc Savard to have name on Stanley Cup –NHL News Update
After Boston Bruins pulled a few strings and had special permission granted by the National Hockey League (NHL), their concussion riddled veteran player, Marc Savard, will have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup along with the rest of his teammates who
took his outgoing as a motivational factor for their championship run last season.
Boston Bruins general manager, Peter Chiarelli, made the announcement on Monday, September 12, while attending the teams’ annual charity golf tournament. Franchise president, Cam Neely, on the other hand was relieved to have had success due to the league
rules that would have initially kept Savard’s name out.
“You’re only allowed to include so many”, said team president Cam Neely. “You’d like to get as many people on there as possible, but it was important to have Savvy’s name on there. Fortunately, that worked”.
The 34-year-old was limited to playing only 25 games last season but still managed to pot 10 points (2 goals, 8 assists) and also missed half of the season prior to the previous. Being a player that usually potted 80 or more points, it was truly hard not
only for Savard himself but for the entire team.
According to GM Chiarelli, Savard might not play again since his recovery process has been taking much longer than previously expected.
“He’s not in a good spot still. He still has recurring headaches; he still has post-concussion stuff”, Chiarelli said. “He’s not playing this year. Frankly, I don’t think he’ll play again. That’s my opinion, my layperson’s opinion”.
As nothing can be finalised as of yet, it is still unclear to this point if Savard could make a comeback or not. The Ottawa, Ontario, Canada native is still under observation by team medical staff and other doctors but by latest updates, his health does
not seem to be improving anytime soon.
It has been revealed that Marc Savard will also most likely not play next season and will use the entire timeframe to recover and only after that, anything final can be concluded. Until then, the team and fans all around the world are waiting to hear some
good news.
