Boston Bruins continue domination with seventh straight over Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 in overtime -NHL Update
The Boston Bruins are playing in top form and actually look like a team willing to defend their Stanley Cup championship during the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, as they took their seventh straight win over Phoenix Coyotes, 2-1,
on Wednesday night, December 28, 2011, at the sold-out Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona, United States.
Boston is sitting at the top spot in the Eastern Conference with 49 points and is only one point away from levelling it with the Chicago Blackhawks, who lead the league at the moment with 50 points.
David Krejci kicked off the scoring with his seventh of the season 47 seconds into the opening period which gave Boston some momentum to work on throughout the 60-minute contest.
Phoenix was determined not to go down without a fight as Ray Whitney made the equaliser with less than five minutes to go in the period for his 13th of an assist by Daymond Langkow.
Coyotes coach, Dave Tippett, knew that it would not be any way easy for them against Boston, but they did want to leave without an impression.
"We wanted to make sure we left an impression with the effort we had tonight and I thought we competed very hard. That's a good hockey team over there", Tippett said. "We're missing a few guys … but we had a lot of people pour a lot into that game and it's
too bad we couldn't get two points".
Adam McQuaid faced the music during the final minutes of the initial period as he was called for a minor penalty for being an instigator along with a five minute major for fighting and 10 minute game misconduct while Phoenix also lost Raffi Torres for exchanging
fists.
As the match entered into overtime with both teams failing to score in the next 40 minutes of regulation, Boston killed it off quick with Dennis Seidenberg making his second of the year, only 58 seconds into overtime to take the two points.
Boston is headed to Dallas in order to face-off with the Stars in order to end the month in a near perfect manner on Saturday. Phoenix on the other hand, has the next against Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.
