Boston Bruins crush and destroy Toronto Maple Leafs 8-0 -NHL Update
Boston not only snapped Toronto’s two-game winning streak but Bruins also crushed and destroyed the Maple Leafs in a huge, 8-0, victory Monday night, March 19, 2012, at the sold-out TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
The thrashing lasted from the opening minute to the closing minute as Boston took out a lot of their frustration that had mounted up in recent days with analysts calling them a team not worthy of another Stanley Cup championship.
Bruins proved that were not unworthy and could change the course of a matchup if desiring to.
Going up against the Maple Leafs has always been something Boston looked forward to this 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as prior to the contest, Bruins already led the season scoring by a whopping 28-10.
"Goaltending falls right in line with the rest of our team," Toronto coach, Randy Carlyle, said. "They didn't play to the level that was required. ... Your goaltender has to give you a chance, but your team has to help your goaltender and give him a chance."
The home team barely let the opposition breathe as the Bruins had 24 shots throughout regulation on the Toronto goalies as Maple Leafs struggled to keep up and had only 13 attempts on Tim Thomas, giving him another shutout.
"I have never really seen anything like that (domination)," Maple Leafs goalie, James Reimer, said. "I'm not sure why one team has an advantage."
Chris Kelly kicked off the scoring 2:25 into the opening period for his 18th of the season. Gregory Campbell extended the lead with his eighth of the year on a wraparound after Toronto failed to take control of a loose puck behind their net.
After assisting the first, Benoit Pouliot fired off a redirection shot as Brian Rolston fed Johnny Boychuk for the slap shot, hitting Pouliot’s stick to go into the Toronto net.
Brad Marchand capped off the first embarrassing period for Toronto on a power play with Jay Rosehill out for roughing.
Benoit Pouliot, captain Zdeno Chara and Brian Rolston added three straight in the second, taking it to 7-0 entering the final period while Tyler Seguin fired off the last at 18:29 in the third.
Boston is heating up, now with their second win, they have the next against San Jose Sharks on Thursday, which should not be much of an issue for them.
Toronto is looking to rebound against New York Islanders at home on Tuesday.
