Boston Bruins defeat the Atlanta Thrashers 3-2 – NHL Recap
The Boston Bruins played host to the Atlanta Thrashers in what was the first game of Saturday at the TD Garden Arena that saw the Bruins winning 3-2. The game was important for both the teams with the Bruins looking to score two valuable points in the their
search for the top spot in the Eastern Conference while the Thrashers were looking to win and keep hopes of a National Hockey League play-off spot alive.
The game started off with very few shots on goals and the period remained dry on goal attempts throughout. Things got better with the passage of time, but the teams were unable to get past the strong opposing defence. The Bruins scored the first goal early
in the period but the Thrashers levelled the scores a few minutes later. The second period saw the teams better on the offence and they were able to pile up quite a few shots on goal. The Thrashers got into the lead with a goal, but the Bruins were successful
in scoring and levelling the score once again. The final period saw the Bruins scoring the lone goal of the period to win the game 3-2 in the end. Michael Ryder, winger of the Bruins was named the Star of the Game, as he scored the winning goal during the
period.
The Bruins were the better of the starters in the period and they managed to score an early goal that put them in the lead. The goal was scored by Mark Recchi from a well placed flick-shot in the fifth minute. The defence of both teams did an excellent job
in cutting down almost all the attacks.
Things got better for the Thrashers in the middle stages of the period and they too started to create a few chances for themselves. The period saw the Thrashers scoring in the 12th minute through Dustin Byfuglien from a powerful strike to level
the score.
The period ended with the score level on 1-1, as the Bruins made six shots on goal while the Thrashers made four attempts.
The second 20 minutes of play kicked off with the Thrashers bagging an early goal in the second minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Evander Kane from a well placed flick-shot. The Bruins were not far behind as they too started to create scoring
chances.
The Bruins successfully scored in the seventh minute through Daniel Paille from a flick-shot to level the score. There were several more scoring chances for both teams, but none of the shots found the back of the net, as the period ended with the score level
on 2-2 with both teams making 11 shots on goal each during the period.
The final period was dominated by the Thrashers in terms of chances to score, but it was the Bruins who scored the lone goal of the final period to win the game. The goal was scored by Michael Ryder from a decent strike that saw the Bruins winning 3-2 in
the end.
