Boston Bruins defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 – NHL Recap
The final game of Sunday was played at the Wells Fargo Arena as the Philadelphia Flyers faced a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Boston Bruins. Both teams have already qualified for the National Hockey League play-offs, but were looking to score important
points for the standings in the Eastern Conference.
The game started off with both teams coming up with decent plays, as the Flyers scored the lone goal of the period to get into the lead. The second period saw the Bruins dominating the game in terms of shots on goal. They were successful in scoring to level
the scores. The final 20 minutes of play were again dominated by the offence of the two teams, but it was the Bruins who scored once again to win the game 2-1 in the end. Brad Marchand, centre of the Bruins was named the Player of the Game, as he scored the
winning the goal.
Both the teams were slow on the attack at the start, but things got better with the passage of time. The play-making and shooting were both decent, but none of the shots found the back of the net.
The Flyers with some strong plays were successful in scoring in the fifth minute through Kris Versteeg from a brilliant tip-in shot to get into the lead. The Bruins responded with a few decent shots, but could not score any goals. There were numerous shots
on goal at the end of the period, but it was the Flyers who were still leading 1-0 with both teams making 10 shots on goal.
The second period began with the away side dominating the offensive play, but their defence was still vulnerable. There were open chances for both sides, but it was the Bruins who scored in the eighth minute to level the score.
The goal was scored by Nathan Horton from a brilliant flick-shot during the power-play. The Bruins had a few more chances to get into the lead, but they were not successful in scoring as the period ended with the score level 1-1. During the period, the Bruins
made 14 shots on goal while the Flyers made just seven attempts.
During the final 20 minutes of play, both teams were even in terms of shots on the net, but the Bruins scored the lone goal of the period. The goal was scored as a result of a flick-shot in the 17th minute through Brad Marchand during the power-play.
The period saw both teams making several more shots, but no goals were scored as the game ended with the Bruins winning 2-1.
