Boston Bruins edge New Jersey Devils 4-3 in overtime -NHL Update
Boston was on the edge entering their Thursday night matchup against New Jersey coming out of a shutout loss against Ottawa Senators. Bruins played hard and came out victorious in the end as they edged Devils, 4-3, in overtime at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
David Krejci was the man of the match for the Bruins as he picked up three goals for a hat trick including the goal that led his team into an overtime extension and game-winner in the extra five-minute period as well.
Milan Lucic was a major contributor as well since he set up two of the goals during the contest, which could be bringing a new era in Boston’s history with the forwards stepping up more.
Krejci kicked off the scoring with his 14th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season 1:13 into the opener.
The Boston rookie, Tyler Seguin, was the one to make the extension shot into the period nearly midway through for his 21st of the year, giving Bruins a well enough lead heading into round-two.
Eric Boulton and Shawn Thornton exchanged fists in the minute after Krejci’s first of the night. Both were awarded a five-minute major for fighting.
Devils entered the second period down by two and knowing that if they did not comeback right then and there, it might be impossible to rebound later on.
New Jersey, determined as they were, completely shutout Boston during the middle period as captain, Zach Parise, got the first for Devils, followed by Patrik Elias with the equaliser and David Clarkson for the tie-breaker with less than three minutes to go.
David Krejci could not be stopped and his second of the night through New Jersey goalie, Martin Brodeur allowed Boston to get another life in overtime and scored again with two minutes remaining in the extension to take the match.
Bruins hope to continue winning and are looking forward to a matchup against New York Islanders on Saturday.
New Jersey worked hard and nearly took down the defending Stanley Cup champions, giving them enough momentum to take on Washington Capitals on Friday.
