Boston Bruins fails to take advantage of numerous power-plays against Vancouver Canucks –NHL Update
Even though Boston Bruins was given multiple power-play advantages during the fifth game of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals’ series, like usual, Bruins was unable to capitalise on the opportunities as Vancouver Canucks won 1-0 on
Friday, June 10th, at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.
It was during the first period that Boston had the best chances at taking an early lead and further locking down the already sluggish Vancouver offence.
Raffi Torres was booked a little over a minute into the game for tripping Gregory Campbell followed by Henrik Sedin penalised for interference with Johnny Boychuk and a third consecutive penalty by Andrew Alberts for roughing up Shawn Thornton all over a
14-minute time frame.
Vancouver Canucks is not known as the top penalty killing team in the league for no reason. It killed all three back-to-back penalties with ease, not letting Boston anywhere near its goalie, Roberto Luongo.
"It's the Stanley Cup Final, nobody said it was going to be easy", said Maxim Lapierre, who scored the winning goal during the final period. "We just had to regroup and bounce back, and this is what we did. We were patient with the game plan and we got our
break".
Ryan Kesler gave Bruins its fourth and last chance at an added man advantage when he was sent to the benches for interfering with Tim Thomas but Boston remained deadlocked which ultimately led them to a loss.
"It almost seemed like we were letting them push us out of the way in front of the net", said Boston’s forward, Milan Lucic. "We've got to fight harder to get in his vision, get traffic. He's a world-class goaltender and if he sees it he s going to stop
it".
If Boston wants to win in the upcoming games which are the most crucial since the Stanley Cup will be present in the Stadium, it must capitalise on power-play opportunities because it is the only way it can win against Vancouver.
