Boston Bruins fall after a strong start to game 4 (Part 1)
Boston Bruins will definitely remember the first 20 minutes of Game 4 among some of the productive minutes for the team as they managed to score three goals.
However, the next 20 minutes and in fact the rest of the game would haunt them as they conceded three goals during the second period to put the scores on level terms.
This was the worst performance by the Bruins during the course of the play-offs that witnessed them giving away a three goal lead and that too in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
It seemed as if Bruins would win the game after the first period but Lightning was right on target. After the team managed to score thrice in the second period, they scored two more goals in the final period to win the game.
The final period witnessed Lightning scoring two more goals to complete a dominating performance after they were down and out.
The game winner was scored by Simon Gagne with Martin St. Louis also writing his name on the scoring sheet to play an important role in Lightning’s 5-3 win over Bruins.
Bruins would be thinking that they would go to TD Garden with a chance of wrapping up the Conference Finals and booking a spot for themselves in the Stanley Cup Finals.
However, this didn’t prove to be the case as Lightning won the fourth game of the series to level it on 2-2.
Lighting will be high on confidence and would need to carry the momentum into the next game if they want to come out as winners of the Conference.
Tim Thomas’s performance also had quite a few question marks over it as he allowed three goals in less than four minute to put Lightning on level terms.
"It's 2-2 (in the series)", said Boston’s goalie, Tim Thomas. "I don't know what the use of worrying about (Game 4) would be. I think the focus should be on winning the next game".
Patrice Bergeron scored two goals in the opening period and was hoping that they would be able to put the loss behind them and move forward in their search for winning the Conference and then the Stanley Cup.
"When you are up, you almost sit back a bit", forward, Brad Marchand, said. "You think the game is over and that's what we did. We thought we had them. We took it for granted. We didn't use it to our advantage and we didn't keep pushing forward and that
is what we should have done".
