Boston Bruins feel no heat despite disappointment in Playoffs -NHL Update
Winning the Stanley Cup for the first time in over 40 years is definitely an accomplishment which not all teams are able to boast about at the moment, but Boston Bruins worked hard to get where they were and an early exit from the 2012 National Hockey League
(NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs is not going to keep them down.
As veteran goalie and most valuable player for the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, Tim Thomas, has announced taking the upcoming regular season off to spend time with friends and family, the Bruins will have a new set of challenges to face and are ready to go ahead
with it.
It is not every day that you get to test your backup goaltenders and Boston Bruins are hoping to let Tuukka Rask prove himself to the franchise that he indeed is their next leader in the goaltending position.
Bruins were knocked out of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, right in the quarterfinals by a heated Washington Capitals team as young goalie Braden Holtby, took the stage and excelled in every department. It was the rookie goalies performance that knocked Bruins
out, giving the team full of veterans something to think about.
"We feel that we've come a long way to keeping this critical mass together for this team because I believe it's a strong team and will continue to be a strong team," Boston general manager, Peter Chiarelli, said. "One of the core components of this, of this
critical mass, is sitting beside me in our coach, Claude Julien, and we're happy to announce his extension today."
"All along we've been working on what I call a succession plan, where we were going to pass the baton to Tuukka," Chiarelli told Ottawa radio station the Team 1200.
Boston picked up defenseman Garnet Exelby and left winger Chris Bourque this offseason while losing Joe Corvo, Greg Zanon, Benoit Pouliot and Zach Hamill.
The upcoming season will be a test for a number of Boston players to see whether they still have it in them to perform or are done with, but Bruins’ fans can count on another spectacular hockey year for sure.
