Boston Bruins forward Nathan Horton back in shape, ready to make comeback -NHL News Update
Nathan Horton missed out on his chance to hold the Stanley Cup high after his team, Boston Bruins, won game-seven of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Finals against Vancouver Canucks after sustaining a concussion by a hit from Aaron Rome in game-three.
Finally feeling in top shape, Horton thinks that now is the time to make his comeback after months of recovery and rest to ensure he will be 100 percent. Bruins on the other hand are going to be taking it slow and easy while bringing him back onto the ice
with a gradual increase in game-play time.
"Obviously, I want to play. But they're going to give me a chance to ease my way back into it", Horton said Friday, September 23, after the team's practice.
Vancouver Canucks enforcer, Aaron Rome, was also out for the remainder of the series after facing a four-game suspension for his sudden and unexpected hit.
Confirming the news, Boston Bruins head coach, Claude Julien, also termed Horton as ready but will be back before long.
"He's fine", coach Claude Julien said. "I expect to get him in the lineup shortly here".
Nathan Horton was scheduled to play their second preseason matchup against New York Rangers on Friday but did not make an appearance which could be regarded as coach’s orders.
Boston Bruins have four games remaining as part of the exhibition series for the preseason against Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, their rival team, in which Horton just might be given the green signal to play.
Picked as the third-overall pick during round-one of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by Florida Panthers, Horton signed on to the Boston club after becoming an unrestricted free agent before last season. It was his first with Bruins, in which he finally accomplished
his long time dream of winning the Stanley Cup.
Even if Nathan Horton is not cleared to play for the remainder of the preseason, we can certainly expect him to make his comeback during the regular season when Boston inaugurates it against Philadelphia Flyers on October 6.
