Boston Bruins’ forward Patrice Bergeron on top of list of injured players-NHL News
The Boston Bruins is probably the only side in the National Hockey League (NHL) that has suffered a higher number of injuries while coming out of the Eastern Conference playoff quarterfinals series.
Among the injured players, forward, Patrice Bergeron, stands out as the most affected member of the squad.
He suffered a partially torn oblique muscle in Game 3 of the series and is disclosed to have played through the remaining games with the pain.
Now with confirmation of his injury to be of a serious nature, the management has said that the player was lucky to have escaped the possibility of a surgery.
This is for the second time in his career that the player has suffered the same injury. Earlier, he was inflicted the injury in 2007.
 Bergeron said:
"It's a torn or strained oblique, in my abs. It's my core, so anything that has to do with moving my arms or moving my feet, it starts with the core. It started in Game 3 and it got worse.”
He added:
“Obviously, I didn't play in the third period in Game 5 and I couldn't do anything. I tried in Games 6 and 7 and I was probably 60 percent, I don't know exactly."
It is rather unfortunate for the player because he also suffered a broken nose in Game 5 of the series, so he has to fight not just one but two problems at the same time.
His absence from the last game of the series proved too costly to the team, as they were eliminated from the playoffs by Washington Capitals, who won the game after scoring in overtime.
According to Bruins’ general manager, Peter Chiarelli, the result of the game would be different had Bergeron was playing.
He said:
"He was very debilitated from taking faceoffs and I believe, I don't Bergy would ever say it, but I believe that last chance in overtime he couldn't stretch for it because of the oblique."
In any case, the player now has a plenty of time to take care of his injury and work on his recovery and fitness.
