Boston Bruins get 10th straight win by edging Buffalo Sabres 4-3 in shootout -NHL Match Update
The Boston Bruins got their 10th straight win to stay perfect in the month of November and record the longest winning streak of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as Benoit Pouliot Scored the only goal of the shootout to
edge the Buffalo Sabres, 4-3, on Wednesday night, at the sold-out First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York, United States.
Buffalo has now lost their second straight matchup coming out of a loss against the Phoenix Coyotes earlier on Saturday, 4-2, but were performing much better against the Bruins, but failing to score a single point in the shootout resulted in another defeat.
"I was happy not to miss it," Pouliot said. "Everyone was shooting low, so I shot high and it went in."
After a number of fights and roughing incidents, both teams were pumped up and desperate to win as Buffalo came out strong after the midway mark with Christian Ehrhoff scoring his second during a power play opportunity while Thomas Vanek extended the lead
with less than five minutes to go with his 12th on another added man advantage.
Tyler Seguin, who picked up two points in the game, potted his 12th as well on a power play of their own to finally put the Boston Bruins up on the scoreboard, but with T.J Brennan’s first goal of the season, the visitors looked to be slowly phasing
out of the contest.
Luckily, Brad Marchand decreased the lead with his seventh at the 16:00 mark in the second period followed by Boston captain, Zdeno Chara early in the third on another power play for his third and the equaliser to force overtime.
"We just needed to take a few deep inhales and exhales and needed to calm down," Chara said. "Going into the third we played our game."
Boston Bruins will have a better chance at staying perfect when they return home for the next two contests with the Detroit Red Wings on Friday and Winnipeg Jets the following day.
The Sabres will be looking to snap their two-game slump when they face the struggling Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
