Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas optimistic for future without Tuukka Rask -NHL Update
Tim Thomas was the driving force behind Boston Bruins Stanley Cup championship run last year and now with backup goalie, Tuukka Rask, sidelined due to a groin injury for the remainder of the season and potentially the playoffs, the veteran goalie is ready
to take on the challenge face-to-face.
Boston is one of the those very few teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) that actually considered both goalies on their line-up to be equals and not terming one a main and the other a backup. Now, with Rask gone, Bruins are going to have to define who
their number one is.
Bruins brought on Marty Turco by re-signing him from the minor leagues and with him not eligible to participate in the postseason due to a post trade deadline negotiation, Boston is looking towards Tim Thomas for the answer.
"I never felt like I ever got that low on energy because of the way that me and Tuukka have been playing the games. The playing isn’t the issue, just with the travel and everything and trying to get the right sleep schedule and getting home at two o'clock
in the morning is more something that I've got to focus on,” said Thomas.
Thomas has had to play more than his fair share this 2011-2012 NHL regular season with 47 up until now, but with his other half gone, the 37-year-old will have to carry the defensive side until Boston can figure out what else to do.
"I'm not even going to go there. I prefer not to think in that mode," Thomas added. "I'm a player, not a coach. I don't want to put on a coach's hat.”
Boston Bruins also have rookie Michael Hutchinson along with Anton Khudobin, both who will be new faces in the playoffs with the Stanley Cup defending team.
Seeing how the team, which has so much expectations from its fan base, will be able to tackle their goaltending issues, the single aspect which led them to the Stanley Cup, will definitely be interesting.
At the moment, Boston is second in the Eastern Conference with 83 points.
