Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas spends more time with cup, this time in Vermont -NHL offseason Update
It might be a very special offseason for a player who got a permanent National Hockey League (NHL) playing position after the age of 30 and won the Stanley Cup in his seventh season with Boston Bruins after being drafted as the 217th overall pick
during round-nine of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by Quebec Nordiques., but only recently has it brought back memories of his youth.
Bruins goalie Tim Thomas brought the Stanley Cup championship to his college city of Burlington, Vermont, where he played nearly four seasons as their goaltender. Even at that time, it was not hard to see that Thomas would someday make it big in the major
league but who knew that it would be during the veteran days of his career.
It was certainly a thrilling moment for the 37-year-old who attended the championship parade while holding the cup on Saturday, September 3.
"The two most fun things I've experienced since winning the Cup are the parade in Boston and now this parade in Burlington", said Thomas at a loss for words about his emotions.
It was see that an estimated crowd of 5,000-10,000 who came out to see the player who had been at one time playing for their Vermont Catamount team and is now winner of the most coveted prize in the hockey world.
Along with the Stanley Cup, Thomas was also carrying along his other trophies, including the Conn Smythe Trophy and Vezina Trophy for the best performing player overall and best goaltender during the postseason, respectively.
According to Thomas, the University of Vermont (UVM) still holds a high place in his heart.
"Everywhere I go, everywhere I play," he said, "it's a rare game that goes by that as I'm walking on the ice or walking off the ice that somebody doesn't go, 'I went to UVM!' I appreciate that. It's helped me along in my career", Thomas said.
The excitement of the previous playoffs still has not soaked in but Tim Thomas is ready more than ever for the upcoming season in which he hopes to continue his winning streak.
