Boston Bruins grab fourth straight over Edmonton Oilers 6-3 -NHL Match Update
After a disappointing opening month to the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season after a Stanley Cup winning performance, the Boston Bruins have finally turned themselves around and won their fourth straight match over the Edmonton Oilers,
Thursday night, November 10, 2011, at the sold-out TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
Edmonton on the other hand is finding it difficult to continue with the same momentum they ended the month of October with five straight victories and have lost two of their last three contests.
The Oilers dropped down to the number three position in the Western Conference with 20 points, under Chicago Blackhawks by one and Dallas Stars by two.
"We didn't seem to have the same determination in our game", said Boston Bruins forward, Brad Marchand, who doubled his season goal total by scoring in the second and third periods. "Right now it just seems like everyone's buying into the system and what
we have to do. Because we're working a little harder, we're getting some bounces, as well".
Johnny Boychuk and Jordan Caron scored two straight nearly a minute apart to put Boston ahead midway through the opening period.
Ryan Smyth answered back for the Oilers and put them on the scoreboard to lessen the gap while this year’s top NHL Entry Draft pick, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, fired off for his seventh of the season 29 seconds later to level the match entering the second period.
Brad Marchand potted his first of the night during their second power play opportunity as Edmonton was down with a 5-on-4 man disadvantage when Jeff Petry was booked for hooking with a minor penalty.
Boston’s rookie forward, Tyler Seguin, extended the lead with a goal of his own and gave the Bruins a comfortable lead entering the last period of regulation.
Ryan Smyth scored again and brought the visiting team within reach of the goal by one with less than five minutes remaining to play but Milan Lucic and Brad Marchand fired two back-to-back seconds apart to secure the matchup in Boston’s favour.
Bruins stay home to host the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday while Oilers continue their six-game road trip against the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.
