Boston Bruins grab second straight edging Anaheim Ducks 3-2 -NHL Update
Boston Bruins grabbed their second straight victory by securing an early lead against Anaheim Ducks, 3-2, on Sunday night, March 25, 2012, at the sold-out Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Bruins were on a three-game Californian road trip going up against San Jose Sharks, Los Angele Kings and now Anaheim Ducks. They faced a 2-1 defeat to the Sharks but rebounded against Kings and Ducks.
Anaheim only has six games remaining on the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season and with the way their going now, it is safe to say that all postseason hopes of the Ducks are long lost.
Sitting at number 12 with 75 points, more than 10 below eighth place Los Angeles Kings, it would take a miracle for them to get back in the race.
"When I first got here, this team wasn't firing on all cylinders," Marty Turco said. "They weren't playing like they can, imposing their will. Team defence makes this team tick and this team defence comes with attitude. It's a real treat to have these guys
out here, not just the defence. It was a good sight to see."
Turco was solid in the net for Boston as he blocked 25 of 27 attempts while Anaheim goalie, Jonas Hiller fell short on three of 25.
"It feels good," Turco added. "Probably the first thing out of my mouth after the game was: 'It's been a long time.' I wouldn't call it a relief, but a little more emotion that was pouring out of me after the game than while I was playing.”
Zdeno Chara registered the first goal of the night on a breakaway unassisted followed by the extension shot from Benoit Pouliot nearly a minute later.
Teemu Selanne added Anaheim’s first on the power play with Adam McQuaid off the ice for holding.
Brian Rolston got the insurance shot for Boston with less than seven minutes remaining in round-three followed by Anaheim’s last of the night at 17:31 from Lubomir Visnovsky.
Boston Bruins will definitely be aiming for a third consecutive victory as they host Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. Anaheim Ducks have the next at home against San Jose Sharks on Wednesday.
