Boston Bruins have high hopes for their emerging rookie Tyler Seguin -NHL Update
Boston Bruins might be a team consisting of mostly players in the mid phases of their careers or even nearing retirement, but the club has a new ray of hope in terms of future leaders whenever they see Tyler Seguin performing like an All-Star on the ice.
Seguin, a second overall draft pick during round-one of the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins, emerged as a top level player during the 2011 playoffs as he came in to replace the injured players when his team needed him the
most.
The 20-year-old certainly did not fail to impress and was one of the top contributors towards their first Stanley Cup victory in over 40 years by having picked up seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in 13 games played.
Seeing a future superstar in Seguin is definitely not hard for Boston Bruins’ head coach, Claude Julien.
"Last year, we were a team that aspired to win a Stanley Cup and we had a lot of veteran players in our lineup and so our approach was a little bit different," Julien said. "In a way, he doesn't get the ice time that those guys [fellow 2010 draftees Taylor
Hall and Jeff Skinner] do. But on the positive side, he gets to live the experience and knows now what has to happen in order to be Stanley Cup champs and he's gained a lot, so maybe he's ahead of the curve in regards to those players where they've gotten
more ice time,” Julien said.
It was most recently that the team and city honoured Seguin during his 20th birthday by lightning up the TD Garden before their game against Ottawa Senators, which showed how much they appreciate the young forward.
What Boston at the moment regrets is not getting him on the ice for as much as they would like to due to the intense competition of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season, but it is something that Seguin understands.
Despite the low amount of minutes on ice Seguin has, the player has definitely impressed with his 43 points (19 goals, 24 assists) in 48 games and the time that he does get for an impressive plus-minus rating of 30.
