Boston Bruins high scoring forward Brad Marchand still without a contract -NHL offseason Update
Boston Bruins high scoring centre player, Brad Marchand, still might be without a contract because his team is taking advantage of his situation. Since he has only played two seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL), Marchand is unqualified to file for
salary arbitration hearing and must wait for a decision from Boston’s side.
For Marchand, that does not mean that he will not be participating in the teams’ training camp which kicks off later on this month.
He might not be awarded a contract yet officially, but according to latest reports, his agent and the team are still in the process of negotiating a deal for the player and expect to have one settled before the new season begins in October.
Boston Bruins still have over $7 million in available cap space for their restricted free agent meaning that at the moment money is not the concern, which arises speculations as to what really is going on between the two?
Marchand might not be fully aware of why Boston still has not signed him but that is not discouraging him in any way.
"I'm anxious to get a deal done. But I just want to be here and be on the ice with the guys", Marchand said.
For the 23-year-old performer, it was probably the lengthy Stanley Cup celebrations Boston has been enjoying which is the reason for the surprising delay.
Participating in the teams’ training camp is not of much concern for Marchand at the moment but he was present at the informal captains’ practices, in preparation for the official start of the camp next week.
"I'm not thinking that far ahead right now. It's just day to day, and hopefully it's done before then", Marchand said about what he is planning on doing.
The past season, Marchand proved in every sense that he was certainly a keeper. Having scored 41 points (21 goals, 20 assists) in 77 games played.
The former 71st overall draft pick during round-three of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft has offered Boston more than they had hoped for.
It is only a matter of time that Marchand is signed on but the main concern here is whether he will get the contract of his choice or not.
