Boston Bruins hope first round pick Dougie Hamilton can live up to expectations -NHL offseason Update
Boston Bruins acquired their chance at the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft first round after trading one of their teams’ top scorers, Phil Kessel during the 2009 offseason to Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for future considerations.
Now having selected 18-year-old, Dougie Hamilton, as their ninth overall pick during round-one of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, a high rated pick for a team that just won the Stanley Cup, they hope that he will live up to expectations which link him back with
the trading of a 60 plus point potting player.
Boston certainly does not lack in any respect, especially when it comes to discussing their defensive end of the roster, which will force the Toronto, Ontario, Canada native, the compulsion to impress the team management even more.
"I just want to come in and play my best", Hamilton said. "Obviously there's a lot of good D men. But I'm just going to coming in and I'm going to show my stuff and what I can do. Whatever they want to do with me, that's what I'll do".
Standing at 6-foot-5 but weighing only 193 pounds, Hamilton knows that in order to impress the Boston crowd, which loves physicality in their game, he will have to pack on the pounds and become more physical than ever.
Being part of a Stanley Cup winning franchise, Hamilton feels especially excited on starting off with a championship team.
"It's pretty special", said Dougie Hamilton. "You feel like asking them, 'Let's see your ring' or 'How was it winning the Cup?' (But) they can be your teammates, so it's kind of weird like that. It's been special with this whole organization and what they've
done".
Dougie Hamilton will be eyed when he enters Boston Bruins training camp which is set to begin later on this month. For the rookie, it will be a chance to grab his first NHL entry-level contract earlier than expected and play in the major league instead of
returning back to his team in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Niagara Ice Dogs.
