Boston Bruins host Ottawa Senators after defeating them on road – NHL Preview
Boston Bruins have been enjoying the comfort zone in National Hockey League (NHL) Eastern Conference for a long time now, and the team’s placement has remained unhurt, while it has witnessed other competitors either securing or losing their safe zone.
As the regular season nears its ends, the competition is getting tough and that’s exactly when the Bruins must refrain from getting complacent.
Their performance in this month has remained emphatically inconsistent and if it stays the same we could see them slipping down from their ranking while staying among the top eight teams of the conference.
After a six-game road trip, which was not very successful for the Bruins, they have returned home and are going to host Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
Senators have displayed an impressive comeback after a poor start to the month and they will certainly want to end in on a positive note.
Let’s have a look at both the teams
Bruins
They are ranked at second spot in the conference with 77 points after 60 games.
They have played 12 games this month and have only won five of them.
Bruins have recently completed a six-game road trip in which they could only win three games with the last victory coming against Ottawa Senators.
Bruins went one goal down early in the first period, but scored two goals in the same period to get a one-goal lead, which was doubled in the second period.
Both the teams scored two goals each in the final period as the final score, 5-3, settled in favour of the Bruins.
Patrice Bergeron, who had two goals in the game, said:
“It's been a tough road trip for us. To finish off with a win is always a good thing.”
He added:
"It's a huge win. I thought we played real well. It was a great effort by everyone. We were using our speed. They're a good team. We were aware of the standings before the game and we knew it was a huge game."
Senators
Senators are ranked at seventh spot in the conference with 74 points after 64 games.
They have won five of their last six games with the recent victory coming against New York Islanders.
Senators were one goal down at the end of the first period. By the end of the second period, they were leading by one goal and when the final period ended, Senators were leading by three goals.
In the last six games, Senators have scored a total of 29 goals while conceding only 11.
Predictions
Keeping the recent run of both the teams in mind, Senators can be favoured.
The sum of goals scored by both the teams might exceed six.
If Bruins win, the winning margin will be less than two goals.
