Boston Bruins level quarter-final against Montreal Canadiens with 5-4 overtime win – NHL playoffs
Boston Bruins levelled the fourth game of the quarter-final series against the Montreal Canadiens with a 5-4 overtime win at the Centre Bell Arena on Thursday.
The game was important for both teams as the Canadiens were leading the series 2-1. The Bruins needed to win so that they could level the series while the Canadiens needed to win to move one step closer to the semi-finals. However, the curse of a team not
winning on home ice continued as the Canadiens won and levelled the series.
The Bruins started off on a strong note but with the passage of time the Canadiens managed to bounce back. With some strong passing and shooting, the Canadiens successfully scored to get into the lead. There were more chances for both teams but no goals
were scored as the period ended. The second period was pretty much in the balance with both teams making shots on goal every now and then. The Bruins scored thrice, while the Canadiens scored twice to end the period with the scores level on 3-3. The final
period witnessed both the teams scoring a goal each to end regulation time with the scores level. The game went into overtime where the Bruins scored to win the game 5-4 in the end. Michael Ryder, winger of the Bruins was named the star for scoring two goals
and ending the night with an assist.
The Bruins fired a couple of shots early on with the Canadiens reluctant to go on the attack. With the passage of time, things got better for the Canadiens as they created scoring opportunities as well. The Canadiens scored through Brent Sopel from a powerful
strike to get into the lead in the 9th minute.
The Canadiens were on fire after this as they kept on firing shots on goal but could not score. The period ended with the Canadiens leading 1-0 as they made 15 shots on goal while the Bruins made 8.
The Bruins were on target early in the second period as they scored in the third minute through Michael Ryder to level the scores. The Canadiens also showed their productivity with two goals in the seventh and eighth minutes to get back into the lead with
Michael Cammalleri and Andrei Kostitsyn scoring the goals.
However, the Bruins also scored through Andrew Ference and then through Patrice Bergeron in the 10th and 18th minute to level the scores as the teams went into the break. The period ended with the Bruins making 14 shots on goal while
the Canadiens made 15 goal attempts.
The Canadiens came across a power-play early on in the final period and scored through Pernell Karl Subban in the second minute. The lead lasted for a few minutes after which the Bruins scored through Chris Kelly in the 14th minute to level things
once again.
The scores were level on 4-4 at the end of regulation time and the game went into overtime. During overtime, the Bruins scored through Michael Ryder in the second minute to win the game 5-4.
