Boston Bruins make Tyler Seguin's contract official, six-year, $34 million -NHL Update
Tyler Seguin was reported to be in the negotiation process and hockey pundits had termed the pre-collective bargaining agreement expiration date to be the timeframe for him to make it official.
Boston Bruins secured the 20-year-old forward with a six-year, $34 million mega contract, keeping one of the best youngsters in the club on the squad and away from any potential teams that were looking to hunt him down.
While the 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season may not be for certain, Tyler Seguin’s presence on the Boston Bruins for a number of years is, which definitely has everyone in affiliation with the club excited.
"We're very happy that we've got a commitment from Tyler, we're obviously prepared to commit to him," Chiarelli said during a conference call. "He's a young, exciting player. He's maturing before our eyes, and I feel that with the hard work that he's shown
us and the willingness to put in that hard work and continue to improve, I think the sky is the limit for Tyler. ... Part of this business is projecting, and we're projecting Tyler to be a terrific young player."
Seguin really set his value during the Boston Bruins run for the Stanley Cup championship in the 2011 Playoffs. As they were in dire need of an offensive power player, Seguin rose to the challenge and potted an amazing seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in
13 games to assist them to the first title in over 40 years.
That was also his first year playing professional hockey after being drafted as the second overall back in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by Boston, one pick below the Edmonton Oilers’ Taylor Hall.
"He's a high-level skill player," Chiarelli added. "He's led our team in scoring. ... This is maybe more projection that we're used to doing -- I just see a player who is committed to getting better.”
Seguin is definitely one of the best forwards in the NHL at the moment and has a lot of potential in him. In just two seasons, the youngster already has 89 points (40 goals, 49 assists) in 155 games played.
