Boston Bruins not getting too confident with 2-0 lead against New York Rangers – NHL Playoffs
Boston Bruins are not focusing on the fact that they are 2-0 above a team like the New York Rangers in the 2013 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Playoffs Semifinals, but instead, they are looking at how
they can maintain this momentum throughout.
Like the Los Angeles Kings’ last year and how they took the Stanley Cup home after white washing every team that crossed their path, the Boston Bruins know how to win and are hoping to continue with patience
this time around.
Letting the 2-0 lead get to their heads would be a dire mistake, especially against a championship team like New York, but the Bruins have other things on mind.
"You can always get better," Bruins center Chris Kelly said Monday, according to NHL.com. "I think our consistency throughout the course of the game can be better. I think the second period, we were outplayed.
Tuukka [Rask, goalie] made some huge saves for us to keep us in that game."
Not all experts agree that Boston has the upper-hand in the situation right now, since both games were at the TD Garden on the Bruins turf and now, as the series goes to New York, it will be a whole different
situation.
The previous series against the Toronto Maple Leafs is also one from which they were forced to learn a lesson. Toronto was down 1-3 in the series and Boston could have taken it home in Game 5 but getting too
confident about the scenario allowed the Maple Leafs to bounce back and force Game 7 to shock everyone.
"They're at home and we know they're going to be desperate," Kelly added. "No one likes to get down three games in a series. And we can say that until we're blue in the face and know that they're going to come
out hard, but like I said, we want to focus on ourselves.”
New York also knows how to make a comeback. They faced a similar scenario back in their series with the Washington Capitals as they were down 2-0, but also rebounded to take the quarterfinals in a best of seven.
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday in New York at 7:30 PM ET.
