Boston Bruins notch up 3-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers - NHL Weekend Roundup
The second last game of Sunday was played at the Rexall Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers as they were up against the Boston Bruins.
The Oilers are in the last place in the league and looking to win the game to finish in a good position while the Bruins are eyeing the top spot in the Eastern Conference for which they needed to win this game.
The first period turned out to be a goals fiesta with both teams scoring goals. The final period saw the Bruins leading by two goals at the start.
Oilers scored early in the period but weren’t able to score any further goals. The game ended with the Bruins winning the game 3-2 in the end.
Michael Ryder was named the start of the game as he scored a goal and made an important assist which saw the Bruins winning the game.
The Oilers made a decent start to the game which saw them creating chances for themselves right from the world go.
The game didn’t take long to see its first goal which was scored in the second minute by Ales Hemsky from a well placed shot to put the Oilers in the lead.
This was all that the Oilers could manage during the period with a few shots in between.
However, with the passage of time the Bruins got better and better and scored in the 16th minute through Michael Ryder from a well placed shot.
Bruins continued to pile pressure on the opposing defence and successfully scored in the 19th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Nathan Horton from a quick fired shot.
The period ended with the Oilers making 5 goal attempts during the course of the period while the Bruins made 15 goal attempts during the course of the period.
The second period started off with the Bruins stronger of the two teams. They made shots on goal every now and then but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Oilers also had a few scoring chances during the period but they weren’t able to capitalise from them.
The period moved on and it looked as if it would end goalless when suddenly the Bruins caught pace and scored in the final minute through Rich Peverley to double their lead.
The period ended with this as the Bruins led 3-1 going into the break. During the course of the period, the Bruins made 17 goal attempts while the Oilers came up with 7 shots on goal.
The Oilers made a decent start to the final period that saw them scoring in the in the fourth minute to cut the lead to a goal. The goal was scored by Gilbert Brule from a powerful strike. The defences of both teams were very strong and with the passage
of time it got better.
The Oilers couldn’t manage to score any further goals which resulted in the Bruins winning the game 3-2 in the end.
During the final period, the Bruins made 8 goal attempts while the Oilers ended the period with just five shots on goal.
