Boston Bruins play host to the Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL
The Boston Bruins will host Thursday's first NHL game as they welcome the Atlanta Thrashers. This is the second time the teams are meeting this season. Last time out it was the Atlanta Thrashers who absolutely demolished the Bruins, and won the match 4-1.
The amazing thing about the match was the fact that the four different players scored the goals for the Thrashers.
The Atlanta Thrashers have been in great form, as they have been able to score points in 14 out of their last 16 matches this season. Atlanta was on a winning streak until this Tuesday, when they lost the game against the St. Louis Blues 4-2. Coupled with
this is the fact that Atlanta Thrashers are on a very strong road trip, winning four out of the last five games.
On the other hand the Boston Bruins are having trouble putting up decent performances of late. They have let slip their chances of finishing strongly in the standings at Christmas, after dropping four of its last five games.
The Atlanta Thrashers are one of those teams that have are known to have underachieved in NHL history. Atlanta has only been able to make it into the playoffs once in the last 10 NHL seasons. Now the Atlanta Thrashers have a very good chance of making it
into the playoffs, and some even think that they have an outside chance of winning the trophy this time.
The Thrashers have played 36 games so far this season, out of which they have won 19 games in regulation time, while five have been won in overtime. They sit in a good position with 43 points. On the other hand, the Boston Bruins have scored in 32 games,
out of which they have won 17 in regulation time and four in overtime. They are also in a decent position in the standings with 38 points.
The Bruins will be happy to learn the fact that their goal keeper Tim Thomas leads the NHL in terms of shutouts. Boston currently sits in eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. They are ahead of the Carolina Hurricanes by four points.
Dustin Byfuglien is in good form for the Atlanta Thrashers, as he has scored two goals and scored six points in as many games. On the other hand, Tim Thomas is on a roll for the Bruins, and he is one of the reasons why the Bruins may well consider themselves
heading into the playoffs.
Ahead of the match there have been many predictions as to who would win. The Atlanta Thrashers are definitely the stronger of the two teams on paper, but we have seen that doesn't really mean much, the match is expected to be a very tight encounter. The
match is expected to be decided in overtime, with the Atlanta Thrashers having the stronger chance of emerging victorious.
