Boston Bruins rally to beat Montreal Canadiens in second straight matchup -NHL Preseason Update
Boston Bruins received help from their young players during the final period in order to take the lead and takedown their archrivals, Montreal Canadiens, 2-1, for the second straight matchup between the teams at a sold-out Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec,
on Monday, September 26.
Starting off the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) preseason with an embarrassing overtime loss to Ottawa Senators, Boston rebounded and showed that they are the Stanley Cup defending champions by now having won the next three straight.
Seeing the loss, Canadiens captain, Brian Gionta, terms the past few games as practice sessions for the team and that they should not be in any way underestimated.
"At this point in time we're trying to get ready for the season", Canadiens captain, Brian Gionta, said. "There's two games left, it's time to start getting into that season form and getting your timing back. I thought the intensity was a little better tonight".
The first period remained scoreless as Chris Kelly was the only player to be penalised for a minor interference with 1:59 remaining on the clock.
Mike Cammalleri out Montreal ahead, 1-0, on a pass by Phil DeSimone during the breakaway and also served the periods only penalty for holding the stick.
It was all Boston during the final period, which was much less intense that what a normal matchup between the two teams ends up to be because of the long rivalry. Their former top draft pick, Tyler Seguin, potted his second of the preseason during a power
play opportunity as Montreal’s DeSimone was sent packing for holding.
"It's good seeing how everyone plays", Seguin said. "It's a long season. There are going to be lots of injuries, so it's good to see what kind of chemistry can be there".
Chris Clark made the game winning shot for the team at the 13:15 mark and contributed to keeping Canadiens out of the Boston end of the ice after that.
Bruins are to return home in order to face Ottawa Senators once again on Thursday, while Montreal remains at home to play host to Tampa Bay Lightning on the same day.
