Boston Bruins rally to down Buffalo Sabres 3-1 -NHL Update
Boston not only took down the Buffalo team but also the Sabres hope of making the playoffs as Bruins took the Thursday night matchup, 3-1, at the sold-out TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
Buffalo was two points and a win away from getting closer to the crucial playoff spot but will now have to look forward to their next contest.
Bruins are not having it so easy this time of year as well as Boston struggles to maintain a viable lead over other teams in the Eastern Conference along with their North Eastern Division.
Jason Pominville was aiming at being the man of the match again for Buffalo after scoring the overtime goal winner in their previous contest against Carolina Hurricanes. Pominville kicked off the scoring with his 25th of the 2011-2012 National
Hockey League (NHL) regular season at 16:39 left in round-one.
Jordan Caron gave Buffalo another ample opportunity as he was booked for hooking nearly two minutes later but Sabres failed to extend the lead on the power play.
Bruins took over the match in the next 40 minutes as Gregory Campbell levelled the contest with less than two minutes to go in the middle period and Johnny Boychuk along with David Krejci scored back-to-back in the third to take the match.
Boychuk managed to pick up just his fourth of the year while Krejci, who has been a top level scorer for Boston for the past few weeks, registered his sixth goal in the last seven games now.
With Tuukka Rask out due to an injury, Mary Turco was in the stands as the new backup goalie for Tim Thomas after clearing waivers to join the major league a day earlier. Rask will have to make a quick recovery since Turco is not eligible to play in the
postseason due to Boston signing his post February 27th trade deadline.
Boston is on a two-game winning streak now and aims to continue rolling as they have the next at home against a struggling Washington Capitals team.
Buffalo Sabres will be looking to bounce back but facing a tough Ottawa Senators team at their home stadium on Saturday does not look good for them.
