Boston Bruins re-sign head coach Claude Julien to multiyear extension -NHL offseason Update
Boston Bruins failed to put up a strong fight for the Stanley Cup after winning it following 40 plus years of trying back in 2011, but it was still enough for the top management to keep head coach, Claude Julien, with a multiyear contract extension.
End of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season marked the end of Julien’s fifth straight year coaching the Boston Bruins team, now giving him his sixth to look forward to.
The exact details of the extension, in terms of finances and length were not disclosed by the club.
At 52, Julien has shown the Bruins some of their best years a part of the NHL after he won the Jack Adams Trophy for the NHL coach of the year back in 2008-2009 and took Boston to a Stanley Cup in 2011.
Bruins could never have been tipped off to be the championship winning team that season as they went up against some tough teams during the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but ultimately made their mark in the end. It was Julien’s determination to keep his squad
playing top notch hockey and being up against the Presidents’ Trophy winners, Vancouver Canucks, it was amazing to see how they pulled through.
Claude Julien has an overall record of 228-132-50 with a .617 win percentage along with a 36-27 record in the postseason. In the past five seasons, Boston has seen 91 or more points along with have two straight seasons with 100 or more.
The past regular season was also not as bad as many think of it to be for Boston as the Stanley Cup defenders went perfect in the month of November with a 12-0-1 record, but suffered a lack of motivation during the postseason and ultimately were knocked
out of the first round by a team like Washington Capitals.
Julien was fresh to the NHL when he joined Boston Bruins after 10 years of coaching experience in the junior, American Hockey League (AHL), which was probably the best thing Bruins could have done.
It will be exciting to see how Claude Julien makes a comeback next year.
