Boston Bruins savour last moments with cup before getting back to work -NHL offseason Update
The Boston Bruins made history when they won the Stanley Cup championship after over 40 years of trying in a tiring seven game series against Vancouver Canucks, who were also out on a trophy adventure of their own.
Boston is looking to make history once again by making a run for the cup while defending it at the same time, which would make them the first cup champions to have won it twice in a row after Detroit Red Wings in 1998.
Spending their final days savouring each moment with Lord Stanley’s cup, Bruins players are just as excited to get back and having a reunion with each other after a short lived summer.
"You had that time apart and it's a special feeling when you get the group back together", forward Milan Lucic said. "And there's always going to be that special bond that we created between one another and when we see one another there's always going to
be that smile and that connection because we did go the distance and we did something so special together. So that's why I think it's great that almost all the guys are back so far".
Boston had a face change during their short offseason, which for the management was all work and no play. Veteran forward, Mark Recchi, announced his retirement after having planned it conditional to winning the Stanley Cup. Michael Ryder and defenseman,
Tomas Kaberle, also signed on with different teams after becoming free agents in July.
High scoring forward, Brad Marchand, still remains without a contract and could see his negotiation process head into the 2011-2012 upcoming regular season if his agent and the franchise do not work anything out soon.
"It is (tough to stop celebrating)", said Lucic adding that if it was up to him, the celebration would be limitless.
Boston Bruins are expected to enter training camp including conditioning tests and physicals on Friday and officially kick of their workouts on Saturday at the TD Garden at home. Nothing is more exciting then to see whether the defenders of the cup will
be able to live up to expectations or not.
